Purpose:
Join us for a gathering to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the introduction to the world of the Porsche 356 Speedster.
The very first Porsche Speedster, chassis #80002, was unveiled by Max Hoffman at the Watkins Glen Seventh International Sports Car Grand Prix on Friday, September 17, 1954. The stripped-down, Signal Red sporting version of the Porsche 356 took first place in the Glen's Concours d'Elegance, cementing its legacy as the quintessential Porsche sports car. This is a distinction which it still holds today, now 70 years later.
The 70th anniversary of the historic moment when the Porsche Speedster was first introduced to the world will be celebrated where it began, at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival. On Friday, September 6, 2024, Porsche Speedsters and their owners from around the country will gather in the village to celebrate, and to partake in the festivities of the annual festival. Dedicated downtown parking has been arranged and a schedule of events will be planned including circuit laps around the historic Watkins Glen race course. The event is sponsored by Porsche Buffalo.
